Our Care

  • We see you for your Initial Prenatal Visit at 8-12 weeks. We review your medical history, talk about nutrition, draw initial lab work, and do a physical exam, including checking your blood pressure, pulse, weight, and the fetal heartbeat. This one-hour appointment covers key topics and questions about out-of-hospital birth. Regular Prenatal Visits take place monthly until 28 weeks, bi-weekly until 36 weeks, and weekly until you have your baby. These 45-minute appointments include physical exams, lab and ultrasound reviews, and discussions about informed consent. We are here to support you during this special time, preparing for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

  • During early labor, we maintain communication to address questions and offer tips. When active labor begins, my birth assistant and I come to you to monitor both you and your baby, ensuring you can labor and give birth as you wish. Following birth, we honor the golden hour, discreetly overseeing mom and baby while managing paperwork and cleanup. The newborn exam takes place on the bed for family involvement. You’ll be discharged 2-4 hours after your baby is born, once mom and baby are stable.

  • We will visit your home within 24-48 hours after birth for the first visit, checking vital signs for mom and baby, conducting the Critical Congenital Heart Defect Screening, performing the first Newborn Metabolic Screen, weighing your baby, and providing breastfeeding support. If needed, we’ll return 4-5 days postpartum for a weight check and ongoing breastfeeding assistance. At 1-2 weeks postpartum, you'll return for your first in-office visit, where we'll check vitals, weigh the baby, perform the second Newborn Metabolic Screen, and conduct a Hearing Screen. Additional appointments will be scheduled at 3 weeks and then graduation at 6 weeks where we’ll review your birth experience, assess weight gain, and take a farewell photo before saying “See You Soon.” We will miss you but look forward to staying in touch.
